A SILVER CHALLENGE CUP given by the Uttoxeter National Farmers' Union for

Annual Competition, to the Champion Ploughman of the Day out of the Reversible or Conventional Classes. To be held for 1 year.


THE HADLEY FARM CHALLENGE CUP given by T.V. Sale, Chairman 1983 and 1984, for the Best Ploughing by any competitor under 21 years of age. The cup to be won three times by the same competitor before becoming their property. Confined to the Uttoxeter District of the Society. To be held for 1 year.


A SILVER CHALLENGE CUP given by the Uttoxeter Training Group for the Best

Novice Ploughing. Presented by the Chairman, Uttoxeter Training Group. To be held for 1 year.


NEW HOLLAND PLOUGHING AWARD arranged by Hallmark Tractors (Cubley) Limited, for the Best Ploughing by a competitor using a Ford, Fiat, or New Holland Tractor.


A SILVER CHALLENGE CUP will be awarded for the Best Ploughing by a competitor in any Vintage Classes 5, 6, 7, & 8. for Annual Competition. To be held for 1 year.


KVERNLAND TANKARD to be awarded for the Overall Vintage Best Kept   Turn-Out Tractor and Plough in Class 5, 6, 7, or 8. To be held for one year.

TRACTOR PLOUGHING CONDITIONS

ENTRY FEE: £10.00


  1.  Entries to be made in writing to the Hon. Secretary by Saturday 1st September   2012. Telephone entries to be confirmed by signed entry form for each competitor.
  2. Any competitor, having entered who is unable to attend, must telephone the Senior Steward by 8.00am on the morning of the match at the latest.
  3.  All classes are open to any competitor but only one Class may be entered.
  4.  If any discrepancy arises with regard to the specification of the plough the  Steward's decision will be final with regard to the Class in which a competitor may  compete.
  5.  The area to be ploughed to be fixed by the Stewards.
  6.  Handwork is NOT allowed. Rolling of the opening split is NOT allowed.  Any contravention will be brought to the attention of the judge.
  7.  A Dead Furrow may be used if required.
  8.  Final Judging will commence at 1.30pm. Any competitor not completing  his ploughing by this time will lose points.


REVERSIBLE PLOUGHING CLASSES


  1. Competitors must plough a single opening Split (turned towards the lower numbered plot), which should extend 1 metre beyond headland mark and be left as ploughed.
  2. The opening split must be completed by 10.00am, when it will be judged. Competitors must wait until the Judge or Steward gives permission to continue ploughing.       2 and 4 furrow ploughs should plough 8 furrows,       3 furrow ploughs should plough 9 furrows, and 5 furrow ploughs should plough 10 furrows on the lower number, before proceeding to the higher number and ploughing back to the first furrow.
  3. ALL THE GROUND MUST BE PLOUGHED.
  4. Competitors with a vacant plot adjacent should set their poles where they would join their neighbour whilst the opening Splits are being judged.
  5. Depth of ploughing to be a minimum of 8" (200mm) achieved by the completion of the "start" and maintained until the final 2 runs.
  6. Maximum depth 9"


CONVENTIONAL AND VINTAGE PLOUGHING CLASSES


  1. Competitors must plough a double opening split which should extend 1 metre beyond the headland mark and be left as ploughed.
  2. The opening split must be completed by 10.25am, when it will be judged.
  3. Competitors must wait until the Judge or Steward gives permission to continue ploughing.
  4. After completing the "start" 11 or 12 furrows, competitors should proceed to the  higher numbered plot and plough the ground to their own start. Competitors with a vacant plot adjacent should set their poles where they would join their neighbour whilst the opening splits are being judged.
  5. Depth of ploughing for Conventional plough to be minimum of 6" (150mm) and for Vintage 5" (125mm). This depth must be achieved by the completion of the "start"  and  maintained until the "finish". (the "finish" is the last 8 furrows).

Definition:

     Vintage - Any Tractor or Plough of a model that was in production before 31st December 1959.

     Classic - Any Tractor or Plough of a model that was in production between 1st January 1960 and 1st      December 1969.

     Any Novice competing in Classes 5, 6, 7 & 8 will not be eligible for points towards the      County Novice Ploughing Championship.


RULES OF THE COUNTY NOVICE PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012

A.   The Competition is open to any competitor at the District Ploughing Match        who has never won a 1st Prize in      a reversible ploughing class in any       ploughing competitions.

B.  Any competitor wishing to be judged for the Novice Championship must      indicate on the entry form for the      District Ploughing Match for which he      or she is eligible

C.  Each District will be required to identify the best three novices at their      Ploughing Match that have entered the      County Novice Championship:

     The County Judge will then award points to each of the three competitors      based on their finished work.

D.. On completion of all the District Ploughing Matches the County Judge will      rank all competitors based on the number of points that he has

     awarded at the individual matches, prizes will be awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

E   A competitor may enter the County Novice Championship as many times as      he or she wishes by entering more than one DistrictPloughing Match.

F   Anyone eligible for County Novice competition must tick the entry form.

J C WALKER SHIELD presented to the winner of Class 1, Champions Class. To be held for 1 year.


A SILVER CHALLENGE CUP will be presented for the Best Hedgelaying by a competitor in Class 2, over 24 years of age. To be held for one year.


A SILVER CHALLENGE CUP presented by the Uttoxeter Training Group for the Best Novice.

To be held for one year. Presented by the Chairman of the Uttoxeter Training Group.


A SILVER CHALLENGE CUP presented by the late Captain Kingscote for the Best Hedgecutter.Open to competitors in class 3. To be held for one year.


HEDGELAYING CONDITIONS


ENTRY FEE: £5.00 (CLASS 3 - FREE)


1    Entries to be made in writing to the Hon Secretary by SAT. SEPTEMBER 1st  2012.

      Telephone entries must be confirmed by signed entry form for each competitor.


2     Unless there are at least 5 competitors in each class, no more than three prizes        will be awarded.

3     If assistance of any kind is given to any competitor, he is liable to be disqualified.     No dead wood to be put in the hedge.


4    Anyone not completing his length by 2.00pm will lose points.


5    Competitors must comply with Health and Safety Regulations.


6     In respect of the use of CHAINSAWS the following requirements are for all        competitors:

   a)   The user should have sufficient length of experience or be able to show

         proof of training to a suitable standard for the type of work concerned.

         (The need for adequate training for safety purposes IS a legal requirement)

   b)   Personal protective equipment to current standards should be worn

          whenever the saw is operated, no matter how short the time or how

          infrequent that operation may be.

   c)   In any case where the stewards feel that these requirements are not being         complied with the competitor will be disqualified.

   d)   Entries for the competition are accepted on the understanding that all

         prospective competitors understand the above conditions and are

          agreeable to abiding by them at all times.

7        £10.00 to be given to competitors on completion of their section of hedge.

OPEN HORSE PLOUGHING COMPETITION


Commencing 9.00am prompt


A competition open to competitors who shall plough in the straightest and best manner not less than 5 inches deep.


A leader will be allowed in the Horse Class and competitors may finish their furrow with one horse if they wish.


Each pair of horses competing, and deemed to have completed their work according to the rules and satisfaction of the stewards will receive expenses of £175.00.
